Kids laughing

March 8, 2021

We are a week away from having lived in the state of covid for a year. Last year, a day before the shutdown, a childhood friend and I met for lunch, talking for five hours. Maybe we sensed the disaster this last year has been.

We all tried to be Good Soldiers, entering the shutdown phase with optimism. I, personally, went to visit my parents, wearing a mask and standing on the back porch. We waved at each other, blowing kisses, then I left. Phone calls weren’t enough; I needed to SEE how they were doing.

This past year we have gone from optimism, to defeat, to fighting mad, to sad, to depressed, to rebellious, to accepting, some of us. A lot of us have lost hope for normalcy ever, again. I have been fighting not only the covid funk but family issues we have no control over. I was beginning to lose hope, myself.

For Hubbs and I, this past week with The Grandson was just the medicine we needed. He is so full of life, and energy and optimism – he exudes sunshine. To top off the week, we began watching some Saturday Night Live retro shows after we dropped him off. I was feeling blue and Hubbs knows me; he started playing silly shows that we used to watch together when we were younger, and it was perfect. I haven’t laughed that hard in years.

It’s a very silly thing, but laughing long and hard and loud is a treasure.

One of the many skits that were laugh-out loud funny – gross, crass, but funny. https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/urigro/n12110
