I’ve seen a lot of memes lately about how long the month of January always seems to be, like this one below. Well, this year, for me, January seems to be flying by. I can’t help but think if “the longest month of the year” is flying by, what will the rest of the year seem like?!
Already, after that Freezefest we just had, the weather is starting to feel springlike; in January. I was looking out into the yard wondering when the leaves would be dry enough that I could do a quick run-thru with the lawn mower; in January. I was sure that I had seen some green leaves of snowdrops in the neighbor’s yard yesterday; in January! (I looked up snowdrops and I think the leaves are wrong.)
All I know is that last September the First I blinked and it was New Year’s. Maybe it’s because we’ve been involved in church, again, so we’ve had more “social” events in our lives than we’ve had in years. Perhaps those added events have helped make the weeks go by.
In a couple of weeks, Hubbs will be seventy years old. Never did I ever… I remember when he turned forty. He was away from home on a business trip. Our kids were 14, 8 and 2 (times 2). We were in the middle of our wonderful life with our children. Our parents were in their 60s, beginning their retirement years. And here we are — thirty years later, THIRTY. His parents are gone; mine are in their 90s. Our children are adults with children of their own.
It’s not that I didn’t think we’d reach this age in life, I just thought it would take longer. I think of all the treasures we have seen and found along the way and it has truly been a wonderful life. Hubbs wants to get a little morbid about the fact that he is turning seventy. No, I am grateful for the life he’s led with me along for the ride. I just wonder how many blinks we’ll have before he turns eighty.
