large box of Crayons®️

January 13, 2020

I bought myself a box of treasures yesterday, at the Goodwill. (I was attracted to the box first as I ❤love ❤boxes. 😊) A lady whispered over to me, “Crayons®,” but when I opened the box, it was so much more than Crayons® – colored pencils, markers, oil chalk (pastels??) and watercolors. Since I’ve been trying my hand at drawing lately, I thought it was a treasure trove of color.

This discovery makes me wish I’d paid more attention in Mr. Hackney’s art classes in Junior High. I was fascinated by everything we were being taught, but he was so touchy-feely with many of the girls that he kind of creeped me out. (The one art class I took in college, I think I got a D. !!! That teacher certainly thought I didn’t have “the gift”!!)

I’m so thankful to God for giving us color in our world. There are people with whom He has deposited this talent for seeing, and drawing/painting/sculpting what they see. I envy those people but I am not jealous. I want them to retain their creativity, sharing it! I seem to have a gift for putting into words what I see, and that is enough. Sometimes I sew it, too, or landscape it. Even cook or bake it.

For some reason, the older I get the more I want to express all kinds of creativity. Maybe it’s because I’m not busy with children, anymore. Oh! How I loved our children years, and loved our grandchildren years, when we were close. But, now, there is all this time and I am eager to find out “what else can I do.”

How about you? What treasure trove of creativity do you busy yourself discovering? Being made like our Creator, we long to create. I think it delights Him when we do.
