Today’s treasure?? BATTERIES!
I noticed this morning that this clock needed batteries (beautiful clock but the real time was 10:26!) Since I always try to have some on hand, the need was quickly addressed. I realized, though, how wonderful it is to live in an age where batteries are available, easily accessible and affordable.
This clock is placed on a narrow wall between the shower and the door. No electricity needed. No winding needed. I thought back to earlier days when a family had one clock that was wound daily, or, in later years, one clock that was plugged into an outlet.
Now we have clocks everywhere, don’t we?! Because of batteries. Batteries allow us to have wristwatches that don’t need wound (how many of us killed a wristwatch because of too tightly winding?!), book lights to help us read at night, miniature fans to keep us cool, timers to help us keep track of our baking. We have huge batteries for our cars and lawn mowers, not so huge batteries for our electric lawn equipment or screwdrivers.
I’m so grateful to live in this technological age. (My only concern is what happens to the dead batteries — want a better solution for recycling.)
