My mom and dad waving

January 12, 2024

I saw The Folks, again, yesterday as is my usual habit for a Thursday. Beloved Sister had taken Mom to a doctor’s appointment, so Dad and I had a chance to talk by ourselves a little bit. Dad has a fondness for storage containers (now I know where I get that from!) and was having trouble with getting the stickers off. I told him I’d bring him some GooGone when I came out next. It is like a miracle formula for getting rid of sticky stuff.

After a nice visit, I finally left to get some shopping done. As I backed out of the space to go around, I saw Dad standing inside the back door waving. I nearly burst into tears, even though it’s not the first time he’s waved goodbye at me.

A School Friend and I have mentioned several times to each other how blessed we are to still have our parents at the ripe old ages that they are. However, she lost her father this last week and my heart has really been hurting for her. When I saw Dad standing there, waving away, I was just so thankful he was still there, but I know that my time is coming for that Last Goodbye.

All of Us Girls know how wonderfully blessed we still are to have Mom and Dad with us. They just don’t remember like they used to, they don’t like getting out unless encouraged a great deal, and they aren’t as busy as in the old days. But glimpses of who they are are still there, every day. Mom definitely has opinions and isn’t afraid to share them, with a little bit of sass thrown in.

The first treasures in my life were my parents. They still are my dearest treasures today. I thank them for a lifetime of memories and good times they have given me. I only hope my own children will feel the same about Hubbs and me one of these days. Oh, to feel this loved!
